Canadians in Normandy included my dad, Harold Chislett in the centre of this photo. His rank was Gunner and he was part of a crew of 7 on a self-propelled gun - the Sexton. They are having their first beer in a month. My dad was 20 in this picture, survived the war but not life. Dead from alcohol abuse 26 years after having this beer.
If you are a military buff, specifically the artillery, check this: Limber Gunners Association, based in Toronto, Ontario.

    hi,
to be quite honest with you I have relatively little idea how all this works (blogging, etc.). I am a newly new one, wanting to rouse the ideals, promises, integrity and love for this EARTH we live on, owe our lives and our love of Beauty & order to this gracious and generous host/hostess. I find myself at a Passage in Life that was totally unexpected. In fact, never even dreamed of (for one who interacts with her dreams, this is quite unsettling…though there were markers, but, hey…”I’ll just let that one pass by (the dream that is).” With my life, lifestyle turned generally and urgently upside down (and without the capabilities to gain my physical strength back; and all beliefs about how humankind came to be and the beliefs (crutches) followed with some degree of discipline, I was in for a Tsunami of defiant proportions. Perhaps it is that PAIN (physical/mental/emotional/spiritual) is our ‘regulator’. While I’ve managed to stay alive throughout this experience (e.g., experiment lasting over 35 of the best years of my life); I am left to wonder at all that is now gone from my (thought to be) unassailable metaphors. LIFE is a strange affliction for most of us; a passage through every level of doubt, love, thought, kindness, intelligence, brutal and heinous demolition of our very own kind. It is no wonder then that we do not live longer in this experiment…this trial—sentenced decimation of the last flickering firing neurons of our lackluster Brain Power (this causing no end of suffering for all humankind). I shall attempt to stop poking around where I do not even know the territory well enough to find my way back out, much less be able to offer any real or significant proportion of aid…once I get in there; and having railed against the ‘dying of the light’ (for a very short time), I’ve concluded that I will enjoy (with as much abandonment as I can summon) the goodness, which is all around me IF I’ll recognize the futility of spending what time I do have shackled to moving mountains (that are actually quite fine and lovely where they are). I have made a promise to Self that I will not let injustice find me silent to whatever degree I was. Even if I will not speak for myself, I can speak for another — as soon as I learn the language!! (Spanish)
    Be Well!!! ;)

    Hi,

I noticed your blog mentions Andrew Willis at the Globe. Do you know how I can contact him? I am trying to contact the Andrew Willis who once sold a property at 68 Dawlish Ave in Toronto. He sold it to Laura Dempster and Michael Patrician. Could you ask Andrew for me if he is this person? I am researching a former owner of the house, Irene Roth, and believe he might have some information.

    Thanks!

    Hey Paulie!! How goes it?

I literally stumbled across your page and couldn’t believe my eyes. Talk about a blast from the past! Hopefully you remember me – we had an ‘encounter’ during writing class at Cambrian quite a few years ago. *wink* (I lived in Sudbury – Moonlight Beach area)

Since then I moved to Australia for nearly 10 years, and have recently moved back to the French River area with my Australian ‘koala’. I’m in the process of purchasing my parents’ cottage, and am just starting to settle back into the ‘Canadian way of life’. (Adjustments are brutal – but change keeps a person young, methinks)

By the looks you’ve pursued your writing dream!? Do tell. That’s something I want to get back into as well now that I’ve got my magical space established – along with my ‘art’.

Anyhow, I won’t keep you – I just wanted to say Congrats for going after that elusive Tiger’s tail.

    Stay well & safe journeys!

    Ciao for now

    Mim*
