Better Late Than Never

Personal encounters with politics, culture, and life in general

MY RESUME

Paul Chislett completed a thirty year career at Bell Canada, taking a voluntary separation package in 2004.

During his time at Bell, he was a union activist and was president of CEP Local 37 from 1997-2000. He was a columnist for the Northern Life Community Newspaper from 1995-1997, and still submits on ocassion on political and social issues.

Politically active, he ran as a candidate in the Sudbury riding on three separate occasions: once for the now-defunct National Party of Canada, in 1993; and as the NDP candidate in the 1999 provincial election, and in the 2000 federal election. He attended the Labour College of Canada in 2000. With the re-organization of Bell Canada in the late 1990’s, he witnessed the devastating effects of corporate culture on working people, all in the name of media convergence. This had a profound effect and prompted an interest in how the corporate media is destroying the capacity of the public to accurately understand the world around them. He attended the “20 Years of Propaganda?” conference in May, 2007 at the University of Windsor.

Presently, he is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies at Laurentian University, contemplating a move to the Communications program at the University of Windsor.
